Mayor and Councillors' Remuneration

This page outlines the remuneration paid to the Mayor and Councillors, including the policy for reimbursement of their expenses.

The Remuneration Authority is responsible for setting the amount that each Council can spend on remunerating its elected members. The Authority sets the salary of the Mayor, and the Council then decides how to allocate its remaining remuneration amount among its Councillors. The Council also recommends to the Authority, for approval, a Policy for Reimbursement of Expenses of its elected members (see link below).  

Councillor Remuneration for 2012-2013

For the period 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013, the Remuneration Authority determined that the funding arrangements for remuneration of the elected members of the Porirua City Council would be set as follows:

Total Remuneration Pool set at $401,796 (unchanged from previous year)

Mayor's salary set at $105,400 (before adjustment for full private use of motor vehicle).

Salaries payable to elected members:

The Remuneration Authority has also approved the payment of a meeting attendance fee of $250 per day for attendance at hearings relating to a change or variation of the Porirua City Council District Plan initiated by the Porirua City Council, that are called in accordance with the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.  These fees are only payable to the Councillors that have been appointed as members of that hearing panel.  The total notional annualised amount set aside for such meetings is $9,000.
