Cemeteries Management Plan
This page has the Porirua City Council's Cemeteries Management Plan.
Porirua City Council is responsible for the management of three cemeteries in Porirua. These are Whenua Tapu, Pauatahanui Burial Ground and Porirua Cemetery.
The purpose of this Cemetery Management Plan is to articulate strategies, guidelines and actions that enable appropriate management of the Council owned cemeteries and crematorium. The management plan discourages activities inconsistent with the nature, cultural, and historical significance of these assets. The plan provides specific background regarding our three cemeteries as well as policies in regard to monument permits, eco-burials, memorabilia, burial practices, cremation and public use.
The Cemetery Management Plan stands alongside Porirua City Council's Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw which is Part 4 of the Porirua City Council General Bylaw 1991.
The Cemetery Management Plan was adopted by Council on 17 October 2012.
