SH58 Safety Improvements

This page has information about the State Highway 58 safety improvements.

The NZ Transport Agency and Porirua City Council are working together to make State Highway 58 and adjoining roads safer for everyone who uses them.

From 18 July until 21 August 2017, the NZ Transport Agency will engage with the community who use State Highway 58 on a proposed package of safety improvements.

Safety Improvements planned

The Transport Agency proposes to:

  • separate opposing traffic using a median safety barrier
  • improve intersections
  • install two new roundabouts at Moonshine Road and Murphys/Flightys intersections
  • widen shoulders and bridges to improve safety for motorists and cyclists
  • straighten curves
  • install roadside safety barriers.

The Transport Agency is also recommending people are consulted on a proposal to reduce the speed limit to 80km/h.
