Porirua Canoe Kayak Club Incorporated (PCKC)
Who are we?
PCKC was established in 1976 with White Water Kayaking and began operating as a waka ama club in 1996. It is therefore one of the oldest clubs in the Wellington region.
What sort of sporting club are we?
The club was originally established to “provide the necessary organisation and equipment that enables and encourages participation by persons in New Zealand of all ages, gender and ethnicity to take part in a variety of safe canoeing and kayaking activities, both competitive and recreational”. PCKC has over 150 members and new members are always welcome.
PCKC is affiliated to the following organisations:
- White Water Rafting NZ
- Hoe Tonga Pacifica Waka Ama Associaton
- Waka Ama NZ (Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa Inc)
How can we help you?
The club supports and caters for a number of different paddling sports and encourages its members to branch out and challenge themselves in multiple disciplines as this will enhance their paddling knowledge and skills.
PCKC is very much a whanau-focused club and encourages participation at all levels of the whanau; from babies right through to kaumatua. The first Sunday of each month is “Whanau Day”. This is held from 10am-12noon and is a chance for all club members and their whanau to get together. It is also an opportunity for anyone who may be interested in paddling to get out in the waka and “Have a Go”.
