Boat Launching Facilities
This page describes the four public boat launching ramps in Porirua City.
Porirua has four public boat launching ramps
Keen to get your boat out on the water? Then roll up your trousers. The waters around Porirua are a popular playground for boaties from all over the Wellington region and public boat launching facilities are provided at the following locations:
- Mana Foreshore, between the rail and road bridges
- Onepoto Foreshore, next to Porirua Rowing Club
- Pukerua Bay foreshore
- Titahi Bay, south and north ends

Keep well clear of boat launch ramp areas
Boat launch ramp areas can be dangerous places, with vehicles and trailers moving around, and backing in and out of the water. Visibility can be poor for vehicle drivers at times, so the public is advised to stay out of these areas at all times to avoid the potential for injury or accidents. You should not swim or paddle in these areas when there are boating movements.
Do not jump off the bridges
Jumping off the Paremata road and rail bridges are strictly prohibited at all times. There are signs notifying this ban, and it is extremely dangerous for boaties and swimmers alike. This activity also distracts drivers and there is high potential for accidents.
The Porirua City Council has no jurisdiction on this matter as the roads are a state highway. If you see anyone jumping off the bridges, you should notify the NZ Transport Authority immediately, or the Police.
