Porirua City wins big in the International Awards for Liveable Communities

Porirua City has won three Gold Awards in the The International Awards for Liveable Communities presented at an awards dinner in Chicago on 10 November 2010.

Cover - whole City Awards Category B.

Cover - Village Planning Programme.

Cover - Bursary Award.

Whole of City - Category B (average daytime population of between 20,000 – 75,000) This award was judged against six criteria: natural and built landscapes; arts, culture and heritage; environmental best practices; community participation and empowerment; healthy lifestyle and strategic planning.

Environmentally Sustainable
Project Awards

This recognises innovative Projects that demonstrate sustainability and environmental awareness, and have a positive impact on the local community and environment. We entered our Porirua Village Planning Programme.

FIRST PLACE

Bursary Award
Only communities entering the Whole City section were eligible to apply for a Bursary Award. We entered the Waitangirua Park waharoa and associated carvings project. The winner received funding of up to £10,000 Sterling towards the project costs.

NO AWARD


The city came second in the Whole of City Award - Category B (average daytime population of between 20,000 – 75,000) and was judged among the best with a gold award. (Other criteria winners sometimes received silver and bronze).

The Village Planning Programme won first place in the Socio Economic section of the Environmentally Sustainable Project Award and Porirua also topped the Community Sustainability criteria in the Whole of City award.
