Pop up Porirua Project Criteria
Pop up Porirua provides access to venues for businesses, art exhibitions, and community organisations to fill vacant storefronts in the Porirua city centre.
If your application is approved you will be given access to a building to use for a set period of time – 1 day, 2 days, 7 days, 2 weeks, or one month depending on the usage. A license agreement is completed for the term allowing you to use the space and outlining any specific terms the landlord has. If the property owner has the opportunity to lease the space to a commercial entity the applicant will be provided with a 7 day notice to vacate. Successful applicants will meet the following guidelines.
- Their project is ready to go and just requires a venue to start
- It does not compete directly with existing CBD businesses
- It has a high degree of professionalism
- It aligns with at least one of the criteria outlined in the programme
- It adheres to health and safety legislation
Applications will be evaluated based on the criteria outlined above. Once a project has received approval a suitable space will be secured and a license agreement signed. Any fees or rents will be negotiated in advance of accessing the space.
It is a requirement to enter into a license agreement with the property owner for a specific term. There is a chance to extend it if both parties are in agreement. All properties provided through the Pop up Porirua programme are done so with the stipulation that if the building is sold, or the space leased in a long term lease agreement the applicant will have to vacate in seven days or at the end of the license agreement, as agreed with the property owner. Access to the space by the owner and all of their associates ie: real estate agents and potential leasers to show/view the space must be provided by the applicant.
Successful applicants must keep the space neat and tidy, both inside and outside, especially at the end of the pop-up term. At the end of each project, applicants are also required to complete a questionnaire for reporting back to the Council.
