Seaside or rural views – the choice is yours

The beautiful coastline with ever-changing ocean views and crimson skies as the sun sinks slowly behind Mana Island, draws people to the seaside communities of Pukerua Bay, Plimmerton, Camborne and Titahi Bay. From cottages to hillside Mediterranean-style homes, there is a wide range of houses in these seaside areas.

The wide sandy beaches of Plimmerton and Titahi Bay are regional summer favourites for swimmers, walkers and those seeking seaside cafes. Windsurfers skip across the breakers at Plimmerton, and surfers ride the waves at Titahi Bay and surf lifesavers train against a backdrop of iconic boathouses. Whitireia Park sprawls over the hills to the north of Titahi Bay offering numerous walks, fishing and picnic spots. Many homes in Plimmerton and Titahi Bay have sea or bush views and prices range from $250,000 to a million dollars.

Porirua has many housing types

The suburbs of Whitby, Camborne, Paremata, Papakowhai, Ascot park, Elsdon and Takapuwahia nestle alongside the tidal Pauatahanui Inlet and Onepoto Arm with their many changing moods. The Inlet is a haven to native flora and fauna and offers a host of recreational opportunities including water ski-ing, windsurfing, rowing and kayaking.

Most suburbs were established in the early 1970s and still have new subdivisions being developed. Housing ranges from small retirement units to multi-million dollar mansions, but most housing is family oriented, with 2-4 bedroom homes ranging from about $300,000 to $750,000 on average.

Nearby is the large Battle Hill Farm Forest with walks, mountain biking, horse riding and picnic spots. The prices for rural properties differ according to size and use, but most range from about $400,000 upwards.
