Unauthorised Vehicle Access - Titahi Bay Beach
This page explains why access to Titahi Bay Beach is closed at night, and the hours that the closure applies to.
Legislation which applies to closure
Pursuant to Section 342 and Schedule 10 of the Local Government Act 1974, the Porirua City Council temporarily prohibits unauthorised traffic on the beach access roads at night between 9.30pm and 5am.
Reason for closure
The closure aims to improve public safety by assisting with the control of unsociable behaviour at night on the beach; to assist with the enforcement of Regional Coastal Rules 82 and 83; and to protect the beach environment. The temporary prohibition will be monitored and will inform the development of a long term solution of vehicle access and control on Titahi Bay beach.
Access roads to be closed
The roads to be closed at night to unauthorised traffic are:
a. The sealed beach access road at the corner of Bay Drive and Richard St; and
b. The sealed beach access road from South Beach Access Road across Beach Road.
Time gates are locked
Gates will be locked each night between 9.30 pm and the following morning at 5 am.
