Collection of Regional Rates by Council

Porirua City Council collects rates on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC).

The following types of rates are collected on their behalf:

GWRC General

  • Comprising a wide range of activities of GWRC, including planning, resource management, emergency management, harbours and recreation. These costs are shared between districts in the Wellington Region on the basis of equalised capital value.

GWRC Transport

  • Porirua City’s share reflects the net cost of contracted bus and rail services, total mobility and transport infrastructure provided to the residents of the city.

GWRC Rivers Management

  • The local contribution to the cost of river maintenance and flood protection works in Porirua City.

GWRC Stadium

  • The cost of servicing the GWRC’s contribution and the development of the Wellington Regional Stadium.

GWRC Economic Development Agency (EDA)

  • This rate funds the region's economic development agency Grow Wellington Limited. 

GWRC Warm Greater Wellington

  • This rate applies to ratepayers who use Greater Wellington's assistance to get insulation or clean heat installed at their home.

GWRC Possum Predator Control Areas

  • Only applies to rural properties

GWRC Bovine TB Control Areas

  • Only applies to rural properties
