Variations to Liquor Licence Conditions

This page explains how to apply for a variation to an existing liquor licence under the Sale of Liquor Act 1989.
You may apply for a variation in your liquor licence conditions
Licence holders can apply for a variation or change in their On-Licence, off-Licence or Club Licence conditions.
The application may be made to the District Licensing Agency as either a stand-alone application or jointly with a licence renewal application.
Variations are restricted only to the licence trading day or hours. A change in the type of licence held requires an application for a new licence of the type required.
Your licence renewal application must be on the right form.
Your licence renewal application must be on the correct form
Renewal application forms for On, Off and Club licences include a section to allow the joint application for renewal and licence condition variations where this is being sought.
There is a separate application form for stand-alone licence condition variation applications where renewal is not involved.
You may print off and use the following forms from the Liquor Licensing Forms page (refer to the link below), for your application for a licence condition variation.
Joint renewal and variation applications:
- Renewal of Premises On-Licence
- Renewal of Conveyance On-Licence
- Renewal of Off-Licence
- Catering Off-Licence
- Renewal of Club Licence
Stand-alone application for variation of licence conditions:
- Licence Variation Application Form
Applications for variation to licence condition must be correctly completed
Applications must be completed in triplicate i.e. the original and two copies of the application form and all accompanying documents.
You must personally complete and sign the original copy of your application form.
If you are submitting a joint renewal and variation application your application must comply with the statutory renewal application requirements.
If you are applying for a licence condition variation only, your completed application must include:
- A full and clear description of the variation you are applying for and the reason for it.
- Copies of your licence and current renewal notice (if applicable).
- The application fee.
Applications for licence condition variations must be publicly notified
All applications for licence condition variations must be publicly notified as detailed in our public notification of liquor licence applications page.
Licence condition variation applications are inquired into
Applications for licence condition variations are inquired into in the same manner as new licence and licence renewal applications.
A Council Licensing Inspector, Police and Regional Public Health Office inquire into and report on applications.
